FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Accommodations

How many people can stay in each lodge?

Our rates cover 6 people per lodge.  There is an additional fee of $15 per guest per night for persons 7-8.  8 is the max allowed in each lodge.

Are all the lodges the same?

The lodges are mostly the same.  They are all the same size with 2 bedrooms downstairs and a loft/bedroom area upstairs.  All have full kitchens, living area, yard access, and porches with beautiful views of our bay in the St Lawrence River.

How many cars can we bring and park?

We guarantee 2 parking spaces per lodge.  If you will have more, please let us know in advance and we will see what we can do to accommodate.  Guests must park in designated spaces only. If we are around, we’ll help with parking when you arrive.  Any overflow vehicles or trailers can use the access road (Riverledge Rd) which is a short (~5 minute) walk from the lodges, or we may direct you to other offsite parking.  Guest parking at the public dock lot is not allowed.

Can we bring our pets?

We love pets, however we unfortunately do not allow pets at the lodges.  Your hosts, Roger and April, who live in the main house (formerly Muskie lodge), do have a dog, so there’s a chance you may see her around from time to time.

Do you supply sheets and towels?

It is common in the area for guests to bring their own sheets and towels, and long-time guests are used to bringing their own.  We also like to protect the river and our own well and septic from high-volume use, so have continued the policy long in-place by the prior owners.  As such, our nightly rates do not include sheets and towels, however, we are happy to provide if needed.  Please arrange in advance and the cost is $20/set. Pillows and blankets are available in each cottage.

What are the sizes of your beds?

Each cottage has two downstairs bedrooms – one with a king bed and one with 2 twins. (the twin beds may be pushed together to make a king, if desired).  The upstairs loft area has 2 twin beds and a full-size futon (except Osprey lodge which has 2 twin futons upstairs).  The main living area has a twin and full futon as well.

What is available in the kitchens?

The kitchens come with a full refrigerator, microwave, sink, dishwasher, gas stove, toaster, 12 cup drip coffeemaker, dishes, glasses, pots, pans, silverware, and other basics.  Coffee filters and salt and pepper are commonly available as well. Pretty much all you need to do is bring the food!

What is available for outdoor cooking and dining?

Each lodge has access to a charcoal grill, a firepit, and one picnic table.  There are grill utensils and chimney starters available also so you don't have to use lighter fluid.  We also have charcoal available for sale.  Please bring your own wood for fire pit use, or we can direct you to places to find it.

Do you have TV’s in the lodges?

Many guests prefer to unplug during their stay so we do not include TVs in the lodges.  That said, some do choose to bring their own and we also have a couple 32 inch smart tvs available to borrow, upon request.  The tvs can access apps such as Netflix, YouTube, etc. via the wifi but do not have traditional cable hookups.  We also have a selection of books and games in each lodge.

Do the lodges have heat and air conditioning?

The lodges do not have heat or air conditioning, however there's a whole-house fan, as well as several portable fans, space heaters, and blankets in each.

How is cell/mobile phone service on the property?

Generally, good. Most guests have adequate service through their mobile provider and can make calls with minimal disruptions.

Do you have wireless internet?

Yes, secure wireless internet is available on our property.  The password will be made available at the time of your stay.  Like with power, there can be occasions with outages, however it is infrequent.

Is there a washer/dryer?

There is a clothesline attached to each cottage (with clothespins) that you can use to hang clothes, however we do not have full guest laundry facilities onsite.  The nearest laundromat is the Alexandria Bay Laundromat at 5 Avery Ave, Alexandria Bay, NY 13607  (315) 482-0873, about 20 minutes away.  They have a wash & fold service as well.

Is the tap water drinkable or should we bring bottled water?

Yes, our tap water is drinkable.  It is from a well and is tested regularly through the Department of Health.  Some guests prefer to bring bottled water, but many drink it here, including us!

What things should we pack?

We don’t have a formal checklist, but here are a few items, besides the normal clothes/shoes/toiletries/medications. (Most can be purchased in nearby towns too if needed.)

- Sheets & towels (bed sizes are 4 twins, 1 king, and a full size futon in each lodge. *except Osprey has 2 single futons instead of the full.)

- Food

- Any “specific” kitchen tools you might want (we have all the basics but no blender, crockpot, etc).

- Shampoo/conditioner/soap

- Paper products & trash bags (we provide some but depending on length of stay & number of people, you may want to bring more).

- Firewood for fire pit (optional)

- Charcoal for grill (we also have some for sale here)  We also have charcoal chimneys, so you won't need lighter fluid.

- Camp chairs for extra outdoor seating, if needed.  We do have several Adirondack chairs and a hand full of other outdoor chairs plus picnic tables.

- Hats/sunscreen/bug spray

- Swimming and/or fishing gear

What if we have questions during our stay?

Roger and/or April will be your main contacts and are happy to help with any questions.  Best way to reach them is via text 315-333-2340. Calling works, too.  Email works best for any questions before/after your visit.

Boats/Fishing

Is there a boat ramp nearby?

Yes, quite close! The Oak Point boat ramp is a short (~1 minute) walk from the lodges.

Can we dock our boat at your dock?

We try to accommodate guests as best we can, but please be sure to inquire and arrange in advance.  Dock space may be subject to a fee.

Is there electricity at your dock, to plug in our boat overnight?

Yes, we have a couple outlets toward the end of the dock, one in the middle, and one at the shore.  Bring an extension cord to connect.

Do you have boats available to rent?

Yes. We have one pontoon boat available to guests for daily or weekly rentals, and a fishing kayak. Please inquire for rental rates.

We also have 1 canoe, 3 kayaks (1 tandem & 2 individual), and 1 pedal boat available. These may be checked out by guests free of charge.  Please inquire for more details.

After catching fish, where can we clean and dispose of them?

After returning from a day of fishing, there is a fish cleaning station on the right side of the property as you come off the dock.  Guests may only clean fish there and not inside the lodges.  Any remaining parts after cleaning must be taken and released back to the main channel of the river; not released at the dock, bay, or placed into the garbage receptacles.  We appreciate your cooperation as this helps keep our place clean and odor-free for all guests.

Reservations

When are you open?

We are open seasonally each year, typically mid-May to mid-October.

What are you located?

We are in a shallow bay located at 5 Ferguson Drive, Hammond, NY.  When you arrive to Oak Point, follow the one way drive around the circle until you see the mailboxes on your right.  For Loon and Pike, continue straight past the mailboxes and the main house (Muskie), and you’ll see them on your right.  For Heron and Osprey, turn right on Ferguson Drive and they are on your left.

How can I make a reservation?

Reservations can be made directly on our website, or feel free to call (315-333-2340) or email (oakpointny@gmail.com).  A 50% deposit is required to secure the reservation, with the rest due 30 days prior to arrival.

When do you take reservations for next year?

Bookings may be made on our website or by contacting us at least one year ahead.  Please inquire if dates are not available as a certain number of spots are held for return guests, and may open up if the reservations are not secured.  Feel free to contact us for more information or availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

Due to our small size and location, cancellations affect us significantly.  A last minute cancellation gives us little chance to fill the space.  If a cancellation is made 60 days prior to your arrival, we will offer a refund of your deposit, or you may elect to apply the balance to a future stay within the next year.  If a cancellation is made less than 60 days before your arrival, every effort is made to rebook the lodge.  If the lodge is rebooked and confirmed with payment, we will refund the total nights rebooked, less credit card fees if applicable.  If not rebooked, all monies are forfeited.  If you arrive late or leave early, you are still responsible for all nights booked for your intended stay.
